Hello Cafetalk Community!

Do you want to introduce your children to the current news so they know what's going on around the world? Would you like your child to improve their English skills by reading newspaper articles? Would you like your child to express his/her opinion in English since "output" or speaking is essential?

There are so many benefits that this lesson provides for children, teens, and young adult students.

[In the lesson, your child will:]

  1. Read fun and age-appropriate news articles
  2. Have a native pronunciation check
  3. Answer True or False Questions
  4. Learn new vocabulary words
  5. Discuss their opinions based on the questions I will ask about the topic.
  6. Learn about a new topic at each lesson
  7. The articles are geared toward children and young adults. Since I've worked with children before, I am able to select age-appropriate articles.
  8. Since "output" is important to improve in English, I will encourage as much speaking as possible during our discussion.
This informative lesson will expose your child to newspapers articles and current online news websites. After taking this lesson over a period of time, your child will naturally become familiar with reading the newspaper and understanding the material. I believe that these skills have important implications in this global society today, as well as in the future.

The articles are from incidents that have happened all around the world. Being exposed to world news teaches kids about different countries and their pop culture, geography, politics, current affairs, economy, entertainment, and a variety of other topics.

[Why I am qualified to teach this course:]

1.) I already have a very popular and interesting newspaper reading and discussion lesson for adults. As a result, I believe that I can teach children about the news as well.

2.) I work well with kids and about 20% -30% of my students are children. In addition, I received a Cafetalk Award for my children's lessons.

[Materials - Newspaper articles:]

I will provide a newspaper article. (Sometimes, I would give you several selections to see which articles you're most interested in.) I will send it to you at least a few days (or probably more) before the lesson. *All materials are provided. There is nothing that your child needs except the article that I will provide for you.

[Other Notes:]
*Preparation of the lesson is up to your child. He/she can study the worksheet in advance or do it during the lesson.

*There is no age limit for this lesson, but I request that your child can at least read English. (Unfortunately, this lesson is not suitable for very young children that do not know how to read.)

*I just wanted to mention in advance that, fortunately, I have a lot of students that I teach every day. As a result, I cannot provide feedback after the lesson each time. However, if you would like to receive feedback, please let me know before the lesson.

I hope to meet your child and give them a healthy, interesting, and age-appropriate view of the world around them. I am sensitive, gentle, and friendly, and I believe I may possibly be a suitable English tutor for your child. If you'd like to meet me first to see if I'm the right tutor for your child, please request a 15-min. introductory lesson!

I hope to see you soon! Have a wonderful day!

Warmest regards,

Lady Ayame
