Listening and Pronunciation Training (60 minutes)
We'll use YouTube videos to develop your ability to listen to natural, full-speed English and speak more like a native speaker. Learn new vocabulary, idioms, slang, accent and dialect differences and more!
Description
In this lesson we'll use YouTube videos to develop your listening comprehension of natural, full-speed English.
Depending on your level, we can start with clear standard British or American English or try faster speech or more difficult regional accents.
I'll play the video and ask you what you hear. If you can't hear it the first time, I'll slow the video down, then give you hints.
Maybe you understand the grammar and vocabulary in writing, but can't when it's spoken quickly? I will help you learn to pronounce and listen to fast English pronunciation.
Learning and practising native pronunciation will help you to process English at native speeds.
As my accent is British RP, we can also practise pronunciation together using words and phrases that we hear in the videos, including blending and linking.
For example, 'But with' is often pronounced 'B'with'.
For Japanese speakers, I will use a mix of romaji and katakana to help you get closer to the native English pronunciation.
For example, in Japanese, ’London’ is pronounced ロンドン, but the native English pronunciation is more like LアンDン.
Maybe the people in the videos have strong accents, or use a different dialect of English? I will help you understand the differences with 'standard' RP/BBC English.
If a video contains new grammar or vocabulary, I will explain these.
