Improving familiarity with building sentences and incorporating them in day to day conversation as well as the use of American slang.

Description

This dynamic, high-impact lesson series is designed to bridge the gap between advanced (C1) English and near-native fluency (C2). Through focused sentence construction activities, students will refine their ability to communicate with precision, nuance, and natural fluency across both informal and academic settings.

Each session targets sentence formation skills while weaving in idiomatic expressions, metaphors, American slang, intonation and pronunciation cues, academic language, and high-level vocabulary, underpinned by solid grammatical structure. The goal is to internalize the rhythm and feel of native-level English, whether in conversation, writing, or professional/academic discourse.

Core Components:

🧱 Sentence Construction Focus

  • Building complex and compound sentences

  • Emphasis on rhythm, clarity, and flow

  • Using transitional phrases and connectors for cohesion

🎭 Idioms & Metaphors in Context

  • Explore and deconstruct idiomatic phrases (e.g., “bite the bullet,” “under the radar”)

  • Learn metaphorical thinking in English through storytelling and descriptive writing

  • Practice paraphrasing idioms and identifying tone

🗽 American Slang & Informal Usage

  • Deep dive into regionally and culturally relevant slang

  • “Code-switching” practice: shifting between informal and formal registers

  • Analyze slang in TV, music, and conversation

📣 Pronunciation & Intonation

  • American accent emphasis: stress patterns, linking, reductions (e.g., “gonna,” “wanna”)

  • Shadowing exercises with real native audio/video

  • Practice distinguishing subtle intonation shifts (e.g., sarcasm, emphasis)

🎓 Academic English & Register Shifting

  • Constructing arguments and counterpoints in formal language

  • Phrasal verbs vs. Latinate verbs (e.g., “put off” vs. “postpone”)

  • Using hedging, referencing, and qualifying language

⚙️ Grammar Refinement

  • Focus on advanced tense usage (perfect vs. progressive, etc.)

  • Modal verbs in nuanced contexts

  • Sentence variation and error correction

🧠 Vocabulary Expansion & Precision

  • Thematic vocabulary (e.g., politics, science, pop culture)

  • Collocations and register-appropriate word choices

  • Practice exercises with synonyms, antonyms, and word families

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Construct nuanced, fluent sentences in a range of contexts

  • Interpret and incorporate idioms, metaphors, and slang authentically
