Speaking and Writing Lesson Plan – Packing for a Trip to the United States

Class: ESL Student                                          Date xx
Level and number of students: 1 Beginner
Lesson Duration: 60 minutes  

Aims/Objectives:

  • Students will learn new words and phrases used for travelling.

Assumptions:  

  • Students are beginners with the English Language and will benefit from beginning to learn and practice new travel vocabulary. This is a lesson plan that can be used for a student who is interested in preparing to travel.

Practice 1

Pack Your Suitcase

To practice reading and writing the vocabulary, the student will complete the Pack Your Suitcase activity by writing the name of the item pictured in the comments section and check the answers with the teacher.

Practice 2

Personal Speaking Task

Teacher refers to list of 10 items on previous Pack Your Suitcase worksheet. Student drags each item they will bring on their trip over to the suitcase. Teacher will write the phrase, “I will bring _______ on my trip to the United States.” Student will read the phrase filling in the blank with their chosen item as they drag it over to the suitcase.
