Translation Skills using Sazae-san
Develop effective translation and speaking skills by using Sazae-san videos of selected episodes
Description
We will use selected video clips of episodes of the popular long-running anime series Sazae-san to practice and develop translating and interpreting skills. This lesson is appropriate for both: 1) those who want to sharpen their translating, speaking, and natural expression skills 2) Anyone either planning to either teach Japanese to foreigners or is already doing so
After you request a lesson, your teacher will send you the URL of a selected video clip on Youtube. We will use this clip together in the lesson. Of course, you may watch the episodes BEFORE OUR LESSON if you want to prepare.
The entire clip may be over 1 and a half hours long, but it consists of several approximately 7 minute episodes. Our lesson will deal with one or more 7 minute episodes, depending on the time. In the lesson, you have the chance to translate/interpret what the characters say. I will pause the video clip every 45 to 60 seconds, and ask you to translate what was said.
Since I speak Japanese at the lower intermediate level, I will likely understand maybe 40-50% of the dialogues. However, our lesson will focus on the 50-60% that I DO NOT fully understand.
I may have questions about some phrases / expressions / grammar used by the characters, which will give you the opportunity to sharpen your explanation skills.
Let's enjoy having Sazae, Masao, Namihei, Fune, Katsuo-kun, Wakame-chan, and Taro-chan enable you to practice effective translating skills!
