Structured Discussion Lesson: News & Real-World English

Want to practice English with something more interesting than small talk?
In this lesson, we will use a short article, video, news story, or real-world topic as the starting point for conversation.
This lesson is especially suitable for intermediate learners who can understand English but want more practice expressing their own opinions clearly and naturally.
You can send me a topic, article, or video before the lesson, or I can prepare something for you.
Topics can include:
• international news
• culture and society
• work and careers
• technology
• travel
• sustainability
• lifestyle
• interesting stories from around the world
During the lesson, we will:
- Talk briefly about the topic and check your understanding.
- Learn a few useful words or expressions.
- Discuss the topic using guided questions.
- Practise explaining your opinion and giving reasons.
- Review useful expressions and natural English at the end.
You do not need to understand every word in the article or video. The goal is not to study the material like a test. The goal is to use the topic to speak more English.
I will help you when you get stuck and suggest more natural ways to express your ideas. Corrections can be given during the conversation or at the end, depending on your preference.
This lesson is recommended for you if:
• you enjoy discussing interesting topics
• you want to express longer opinions in English
• you want to improve your vocabulary naturally
• you understand English but need more speaking practice
• you want something more structured than free conversation
After the lesson, I will send you a short review with useful vocabulary, natural expressions, and key corrections from our discussion.
