ESL Lesson Plan: Ordering at a Restaurant (Beginner Level)
Level: Beginner ESL
Time: 25 minutes
Objective: Students will be able to understand and practice basic restaurant vocabulary and expressions for ordering food.
Lesson Goals
- Recognize key vocabulary related to dining out.
 - Use simple sentences to order food and drinks.
 - Respond to basic questions from a server.
Lesson Structure
 Introduction: Get to know student and introduce yourself (2 minutes)
1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Activity: Food Vocabulary
List types of food with pictures
 - Ask: "What is this? Do you like ___?"
 - Have students repeat after you for pronunciation practice.
2. Presentation (13 minutes)
Introduce Key Phrases:
 Write on the board and model:
 - "I would like a _____, please."
 - "Can I have _____?"
 - "What would you like to order?"
 - "Would you like something to drink?"
 - "Here is your food."
 - "Thank you!" / "You're welcome."
 Use visuals to reinforce meaning.
 Example Dialogue:
 Server: Hello! May I take your order?
 Customer: Yes, I would like a pizza and a soda, please.
 Server: OK. Here you are.
 Customer: Thank 
4. Wrap-Up & Review (5 minutes)
Activity: Quick Recap
 - Ask: "What can you say to order food?"
 - Repeat key phrases as a class.
 - Optional: Exit ticket – each student must say one thing they can order or one phrase they learned.
Homework / Extension
Assignment: Write 3 short sentences about what you would order at a restaurant (with pictures if possible).
Teacher Notes
- Speak slowly and clearly.
 - Use gestures and visuals.
 - Encourage confidence over perfection.
 - Reinforce polite expressions: please, thank you.
