課程介紹
Who this course is for
This course suits children at different stages. Those who are just starting out can begin with pinyin and simple vocabulary. Children who already have some foundation can continue here too, building up their vocabulary and sentence patterns in a more systematic way.
What we'll cover
The core aim of this course is to help children move forward steadily in their Chinese learning. It covers pinyin recognition and spelling, basic character recognition and writing, everyday vocabulary, and simple sentence patterns. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing are each given different emphasis depending on the child's age and level.
Materials are chosen for each child. Beginners use the YCT series — clear and step-by-step. For a more relaxed pace, I use A Gentle Path to Chinese. For older children, Jinan University's Chinese textbooks go deeper, with writing practice, picture description, and simple reading.
Beyond the textbook, I also bring in picture cards, songs, and little games. Children tend to learn more solidly when they are genuinely engaged.
The 45-minute lesson is well suited to older children who can sit with a topic for longer — it gives them more time to practise and absorb.
My teaching style
My teaching pace is on the gentle side. I encourage children to have a go, and it is completely fine if they make mistakes. I do not apply pressure. What matters most to me is that, over time, children come to feel that Chinese class is something they can look forward to. Once that feeling takes root, progress in the language tends to follow on its own.
About the trial lesson
Before starting regular lessons, you are welcome to book a 15-minute free trial. I will do some simple activities with your child to get a sense of where they are, and afterwards share my observations with you — what I noticed about their current level, and a suggestion for how we might begin if we continue.
