1. A good method of improving your speaking - fluency.
I have several stories - there is an easy story titled "The Kind Waitress.
Some are more difficult and challenging:
"Love at First Sight".
"The Babysitter".
"A Real Bargain".

The Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) is a strategy that guides students in asking questions about a text, making predictions, and then reading to confirm or refute their predictions. The DRTA process encourages students to be active and thoughtful readers, enhancing their understanding of a text before, during, and after reading

I live in Nachikatsuura, Wakayama ken and have been using this D.R.T.A. approach for a couple of years with a lot of success. D.R.T.A. stands for `Directed Reading and Thinking Activities`. It encourages students to make predictions about a story. The stories and format I use were written by the American teacher Lindsay Young. I have been in contact with her and she approves the use of her work. It has helped my students with vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.

Jack先生が短く切ってくださるストーリーを想像しながら、読み進めるレッスンでした。次は？どうなる？というワクワク感とともに、ストーリーの映像が頭に浮かぶような楽しい時間でした。発音や単語も先生が教えてくださるので、初心者な私も安心してレッスンを受ける事ができました。モチベーションを上げてくださり、今後も継続したいレッスンです。

氣氛輕鬆容易溝通客氣有禮

イギリス人の先生の発音は綺麗でとても聞き取りやすかったです。時制の間違い、複数形・単数形の間違いの訂正など、ネイティブならではの細かいご指摘を頂けて大変助かりました。先生は穏やかな方で、たくさん褒めてくださるので、リラックスして受けることが出来ました。レッスン内容は、簡単な質問文を作ったり、質問に答えたりといった練習がメインになりました。

フリートークだと何を話してよいのかわからず少し苦手意識を持っているのですが、Jack先生のこのレッスンは、教材として短いストーリーがチャットに打ち込まれ、それをもとに進められるので私としては助かりました。ストーリーを声に出して読んだり、先を予測して新しい文章や疑問文を作り出したりという練習を繰り返すという形式です。まさに私が苦手としているパターンなので、とても役に立ちました。発音や文法の改善方法も教えていただけます。

Jack started by showing a paragraph in the chat box. We practiced reading it aloud, then after Jack asked some questions about the story, I had to ask some questions too. Making interrogative sentences right away was surprisingly difficult. I've always struggled with interrogative sentences, but I finally found a way to practice them in this lesson.

We used a story to discuss during the lesson. Jack guided me in predicting its genre and gave me a lot of chances to read and ask questions about the story. It’s helpful for students to learn how to ask questions as we are used to answering questions from a teacher. So, I find it beneficial for me to learn and practice my speaking in the lesson.
