Подробности урока

Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790) has been called ‘The First American’. He is remembered today for many things—especially in the fields of politics and science.  He was also a great writer, printer, and newspaper editor. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and signed the Declaration of Independence. From 1779 to 1785, he was United States Minister to France; from 1785 to 1788, he was President of Pennsylvania.

He was also a man of great wisdom. In this session, we discuss a selection of his wise sayings. Some of them first appeared in Poor Richard's Almanack, a very popular annual periodical that Franklin published from 1732 to 1758.

If you request this lesson, I will send you a pdf containing a selection of Franklin’s sayings. If you have time before the lesson, please select a few of the sayings that you would like to discuss with me.

Optional writing exercise: If you would like to send me your thoughts about one of Franklin’s sayings (200 words maximum, please), I will send you my brief feedback at no extra cost.

This lesson will appeal to intermediate and advanced students of English.
