DURATION: 40 minutes

Business/Materials

1. Power Point Presentation of Lesson.

2. Two quotes or quotations on the importance of women.

3. Two manufactured articles e.g. pen & a ruler.

4. A copy of a Certificate of Incorporation of a Company.

Lesson Objectives

1. Students will be able to understand the term “business”.

2. Students will be able to identify the main reasons why people set up businesses.

3. Students will learn how to identify suitable businesses, how to set them up, launch them & rum them successfully.

4. Students will be led to be aware of some natural or innate qualities of women that are very useful for business.

5. Students will learn the steps to take to register, advertise & run a business with success.

Warm-up and Objective Discussion

Using WH-questions, draw the attention of the students to two quotes on the importance of women.

Discuss the two quotes with the students & point out the importance of women and some natural qualities.

Explain to the students that most of the qualities women have are useful for running business successfully.

Inform the student that today they will learn about “How to set up & run a business successfully as a woman.”

 Instruct and Model

1. Draw the attention of the students to the definition of “business” & explain it.

2. Discuss with students the main reasons why people set up businesses e.g. for profit, prestige, survival etc.

3. Let the students name some needs in their community that can be satisfied by production of particular goods & services.

4. Ask the students to mention some businesses that can be set up to satisfy such needs.

5. The Teacher discusses with students the need to do some Research about the type of business to be chosen. The Research will reveal answers to questions such as a) Do you have any background knowledge about the business? b) Are you prepared to learn about it?

6. Discuss with the students that some things have to be done before a business can be established. These things include: start-up capital, place of business & legal registration.

7. The Teacher models a scenario in which a Pre-School business is formed. The Teacher points out the various steps to be taken & the need to apply basic Management principles and Accounting skills to run a successful business.

Guided Practice

1. Guide the students to discuss the factors to consider before setting up a pen manufacturing company.

2. Let the students list the main things to do in order to register a business.

 Independent Practice

1. Let the students identify the needs in their community and suggest a business that can fylfill one of the needs.

2. Let the students list the necessary steps to take to form the business.

3. Let the students point out what measures are to be taken to manage, advertise and sustain the business to be successful.

Assessment:

Let the students take a 10-Question Quiz on the topic.

Wrap-up & Good-Bye:

The Teacher ends the lesson & says Good-Bye.
