Hello and nice to meet you. My name is Mamie (マミー).
I have a son with autism who is in junior high school, and a daughter who is in elementary school.

I became a Cafetalk tutor because I wanted to support mothers who have concerns and uneasiness about raising their children, as well as people who want to learn English, based on my own experience living abroad and teaching.

*If you are interested in my English lessons, please scroll down to see my background in English and teaching.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
Are you worried about your day-to-day parenting?
Worried about your child’s development? Having a hard time raising your child?
You didn’t expect things to be so hard?
Has your relationship with your child been strained recently?
There are many things that make it difficult for us to open up about our concerns and struggles about parenting.
This is exactly what happened to myself.
If you are one of those moms, why not join me for a chat?

Regardless of whether you are raising a child or doing anything else, once you shift your thinking to a more  “self-oriented” way and act accordingly, the environment around you will naturally change as well.

10 years ago from now, I was desperate to “change my son,” blaming my son for my unsuccessful parenting.
I visited all the hospitals recommended by others, and whenever I found keywords on the Internet such as “effective therapy for autism,” I felt shaken and thought, “If this could change my son...” and actually did try some of those therapies.
However, no “magic solution” could be found to change my son.

When I had exhausted all my efforts, I suddenly felt relaxed and thought to myself, “It is not my son who needs to change, but it’s myself that needs to change.”
Once my mind switched to a self-oriented approach, I enjoyed the work of cultivating knowledge and the change in my feelings, and strangely enough, my son also changed.
He had fewer tantrums and instead he started smiling more.
My child’s smile is like the sun shining brightly, and it was the best reward for me.
Why don’t you change yourself to bring out more smiles from your child as well?

Why is it that there are pre-natal classes for mothers (and fathers) available quite commonly, but after the birth of a child, such classes are so hard to find?
It would be wonderful if there were a safe and secure place where people could feel free to discuss their problems and struggles in raising their child after the child is actually born!
My desire to create such a safe place led me to Cafetalk.

First and foremost, why not take my “悩めるママ向けカウンセリング~ため息と眉間のシワが増える前に~ (Counseling for distressed moms ~Before your sighs and wrinkles between your brows increase~)” to relax and talk to someone?

*I would like to do my best to accommodate your requests as much as possible, so please feel free to contact me even if you want to take a session outside of my available hours.
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー

I was born in the downtown area of Tokyo in Taito Ward, and spent my childhood (from 2 to 9) in Australia due to my father’s posting overseas. I was sent to a local kindergarten, where I spent my days inputting in an environment where English was the only language used, and before I knew it, I was communicating in English myself. Unfortunately, I don’t recall much of it... After graduating from kindergarten, I studied Japanese mainly in the mornings at a Japanese language school located in a prefabricated school building built on the grounds of a local elementary school, and when the Japanese language school was not in session, I returned to classes at the local school to take English and math classes. I still have vague memories of practicing writing cursive without even really understanding how to write the English alphabet, and having desks and chairs in the classroom, but not having my own seat, so I sometimes had to sit on the floor and write my notes on the floor.

After returning to Japan when I was a 4th grader, I was brought up in the Japanese educational system, and my love for English led me to attend a foreign language university, where I obtained a teaching license and became an English language teacher at a junior high and high school, teaching English to students for a total of 4 years.

It’s a long time jump from my days as a teacher, but I moved to Lausanne, Switzerland in January 2019 and lived there for about 2 years. With my “I’ll be fine, I’ll figure it out” mindset, newcomer me arrived with absolutely no knowledge of the French language, and had a harsh time awaiting ahead of me. I still vividly remember how I was moved to the point of getting goosebumps when I was able to communicate my needs over the phone after learning French on my own while being brokenhearted by the countless cold responses I had previously received.
And just like myself, my daughter was sent to a local school, and spent her days inputting in an environment where only French was used, just as I had done when I was a younger. After two years, I finally heard her speak French.
My own experience of learning French on my own and watching my daughter who had acquired French naturally, remind me of how important input is. I think that input (the process of taking in and storing new information) is crucial. If you don’t have enough input, it is difficult to output (to use and transmit the knowledge you have taken in).
Why not have fun learning with me, a Japanese-English bilingual who has experienced firsthand that a wealth of input is what leads to increased confidence and skill development, while finding a method that works best for you?

I have finally started offering English conversation lessons recently.
I am also considering offering other English lessons as well.
Please look forward to them!

*I would like to do my best to accommodate your requests as much as possible, so please feel free to contact me even if you want to take a lesson outside of my available hours.
