Hello, hola, こんにちは, my name is Bri. Nice to meet you, and thank you for checking out my profile!
I am a new teacher with a year of teaching experience, both online and in a classroom. I have a linguistics degree and TESL certification from the University of British Columbia. My studies focused on word formation and the history of the English language.
I currently volunteer at my local immigration center as an English mentor, in addition to tutoring students online.
I love learning foreign languages and have studied French, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean, so I create my lessons from the perspective of a student learning. I think learning should be fun, and I like to use lots of interaction and games when I teach.
My teaching style:
I follow the communicative teaching approach, where communication is how we study languages and the goal of learning languages. I will provide feedback and corrections throughout the lesson. I will not pause every time you make a mistake, but I will point out any repeated mistakes when we pause. I have the most experience teaching intermediate students, but I am happy to adapt lessons for beginners or more advanced students. My goal is to have my students feel comfortable practicing speaking and learning new grammar and vocabulary.
My lessons are perfect for:
About me:
I was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada and grew up in the countryside.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, crocheting, baking, and language learning.
