Hello! My name is Mako and I am a professional pianist. After graduating from a music college in Japan, I studied piano for 3 years at a music college in Germany. I currently live in the Netherlands, where I specialize in playing and researching the fortepiano, which is an old-fashioned piano.Would you like to join me to play the piano and enjoy music together? My lessons are recommended for the following students!:① Beginner level students -both adults and children.
I would like to share the joy of playing the piano with students who have just started playing it. I believe that music is a type of language. Little by little, one step at a time, together we will learn how to feel and express ourselves using music. I would be glad to help you continue to enjoy music throughout your life!
② Students who are able to read music and play a song by themselves to some extent.
If you consider music as a language, this includes students who already have some knowledge of how to read music and its grammar, and who can play on their own to some extent. Would you like to enjoy music even more with me? Are you wondering how you can make a piece of music even richer and more imaginative? Are you wondering how you can tune your playing to better play the way you wish to? There are many ways to approach music more deeply. Together, let’s enter into an even deeper and more enjoyable world of music.
③ Students who are interested in fortepiano, harpsichord, etc.
I specialize in fortepiano. Are you curious about what kind of piano Mozart and Beethoven actually used to play on? Are you interested in how Bach’s works played today would sound if they were played on the harpsichord?
The conservatory in the Netherlands where I am currently enrolled has a variety of historical instruments, and if you wish, I can demonstrate different fortepianos during my lessons.
④ Students who wish to go on to music college, music high school, or to Germany or the Netherlands to study music.
Do you want to go on to a music college, or even study abroad? Please don’t hesitate to ask me about how to choose your teacher and school, about tuition, language, entrance examinations, etc...! I am sure that I can offer you useful information and advice.
Self Introduction
Mako Kodama (児玉真子)
Born in Kakamigahara City, Gifu Prefecture in 1994. Graduated from Nagoya City Kikuri High School and Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music with a degree in piano. From fall 2018, I received a scholarship from the Rotary Club to study at the Music University of Dresden, Germany for my master’s degree. In summer 2020, while searching for my next destination after completing my studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Dresden, I applied out of curiosity and was accepted to the Department of Ancient Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Leipzig, where I then majored in fortepiano. This was my first encounter with the fortepiano, and he began studying ancient music in Leipzig, a city I had longed to visit. The following year, from fall 2021, I enrolled in the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands as an exchange student from Leipzig.
What I enjoy: chamber music, soba (Japanese noodles), coffee, tea (any kind), alcohol, books, cooking homemade dishes for someone, traveling without a strict plan, my parents’ bulldog, as well as people who are kind-hearted, joyous, and unusual.
