Teaching style
I specialise in helping students improve their communicative ability so whether you need English for business or travel, I can provide speaking opportunities to suit you.
I can help with presentations, business situations, speaking exams, discussion skills, interview skills, vocabulary, useful expressions and much much more.
I am a very friendly, sensitive and caring teacher and I love helping people to improve their English language skills as well as their confidence in communiciating. You will have lots of opportunities to speak in my classes.
I am very flexible, variety is the spice of life and would be happy to tailor lessons to your exact requirements. In general, I like to encourage my students to speak as much as possible through discussion topics. I also enjoy providing vocabulary and grammar input to help students take their language abiity to the next level.
In the trial lesson I will assess your level and make some suggestions on ways to improve your skills.
Teaching backgroundI first started teaching in Japan where I worked for Nova for several years. I really enjoyed my time as an eikaiwa teacher in Kobe and met some wonderful students there. After Nova I taught business English to various companies in Kobe and Osaka before returning to Europe. As I had such a wonderful time in Japan, I decided to make teaching my career.
I have taught general, business and exam English to students from all over the world in large groups, small groups and one to one too!
As well as teaching, I am also a materials writer and an examiner for IELTS. I love helping students prepare for exams and have experience with Eiken and TOEIC/TOEFL too.
I am currently teaching for a college and I teach online too.
Interests and hobbiesI love travelling, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people, I've studied Japanese tea ceremony, I like Scotch whisky, tourism, business, politics, podcasts, reading and learning new things. Right now I'm working on improving my Japanese!
I am Scottish but I do not have a strong accent and lots of students say I am very easy to understand. I'd love to help you with your English and I can't wait to meet you on Skype soon.
