Hello! I'm Tamako, a jazz vocalist, vocal coach, piano instructor, and language teacher.

I teach voice training and singing in a variety of styles, including jazz, pop, bossa nova, and J-pop. I also offer jazz piano lessons, piano accompaniment coaching for singers, composition lessons, and language lessons.

With teaching experience at music schools, vocal training schools, and English language schools, I enjoy helping students develop their skills in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

Students of all levels are welcome. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals!

What Kind of Teacher Am I?

I’m an active jazz vocalist. While focusing on jazz and bossa nova, I’ve sung a wide variety of songs in multiple languages, including Western pop, Latin standards, chanson, and classical art songs.


I also perform as a singer-pianist and offer lessons in jazz piano and singing while accompanying myself on the piano. I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, drawing on my expertise in vocals, piano, and language instruction.

 

How I Joined Cafetalk

Driven by a desire to share the joy of music and languages, I began teaching on Cafetalk in 2020. To date, I’ve conducted over 1,200 lessons with more than 430 students.

I’m grateful to have been ranked #1 in the Singing & Vocal category based on student reviews, as well as to have frequently been selected for top rankings. My lessons are highly praised for being thorough and easy to understand.

Drawing on my experience singing in multiple languages, I also provide pronunciation coaching, particularly in English. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced learner, I’ll support you so you can improve at your own pace while having fun♫


◆ Teaching Philosophy and What I Value

I strive to provide gentle and thorough lessons so that everyone can experience the joy of music. I place great importance on teaching that is tailored to each student’s needs, and I warmly welcome beginners and those who have never played an instrument before. Let’s experience the joy of achieving something together through singing and piano.

 

◆ What to Expect After Taking Lessons

Some students have gone from having no experience in jazz vocals or jazz piano to performing in jam sessions or even holding their own live shows.

I've also received many wonderful reports, such as winning singing contests, passing the Eiken exam, and improving TOEIC scores.

 

◆ Lesson Features

Active professional musicians provide careful, one-on-one instruction. A major feature of my lesson is that you can consistently learn vocals, piano, and language skills from the same instructor.

Another appealing aspect of online lessons is that you can take them at any time you like without having to travel. I myself have experience taking online lessons from an instructor living overseas, and I’ve found that music lessons can be just as effective.

 

I make full use of screen sharing and close-up camera views to ensure a smooth experience, so you can take lessons with confidence. Even if you tend to get nervous, please feel free to relax and take the lesson from the comfort of your own home. I’ve taught many beginners, so even if this is your first time, please feel at ease. Let’s have fun learning together!

In September 2025, as well as March and May 2026, I ranked #1 in the Vocal/Singing category. I have also ranked highly in the Piano category. I received the Cafetalk Award in the Music category in the second half of 2021, and I am deeply grateful that my lessons continue to be highly rated even now.

 

Currently, since I am also conducting in-person lessons and performing, my availability is limited; however, I make sure to treat each and every lesson with the utmost care. I look forward to continuing to provide thoughtful and enjoyable lessons.





◆ Lesson Details

① Wide Range of Genres

I teach a diverse range of genres, including jazz, bossa nova, Latin, pop, chanson, and French pop. Drawing on my practical experience as an active musician, I provide instruction that allows even beginners to start with confidence.

 

② Vocal Technique and Voice Training

I provide thorough instruction starting with the basics of breathing and vocal technique. I can accommodate a wide range of students, from those who simply want to sing well at karaoke to those aspiring to become professionals.

Additionally, drawing on my experience from voice lessons with broadcasters and theater workshops, I also offer training in “voice production for speaking.”

 

③ Language and Pronunciation Instruction

Leveraging my experience singing in multiple languages, I provide careful guidance on pronunciation and nuances using audio examples. I also offer language lessons.

As a certified English Pronunciation Instructor®︎, I provide pronunciation instruction not only in English but also in French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.

 

④ Jazz-Specific Expression

I provide thorough instruction in jazz-specific techniques such as scat (improvisation) and fakes (melodic improvisation). This is recommended for those who wish to develop the expressive freedom to sing spontaneously.

 

⑤ Singing While Accompanying Yourself on Piano & Composition

Drawing on my experience as a pianist, I also offer lessons in singing while accompanying yourself on piano, jazz piano, and composition. Beginners are welcome.

 

⑥ Lessons Designed for Long-Term Continuity

Believing that consistency is key to improvement, I structure lessons to incorporate review so you can progress at a comfortable pace. Package lesson plans are priced to make it easy to continue your studies.

 

⑦ Solfège

I also incorporate solfège to cultivate musical ear and a sense of rhythm. While primarily aimed at children, I can also accommodate adults and vocal students.

 

⑧ Teaching Materials

For piano lessons, in addition to methods like Bayer and Czerny, we also use materials such as Piano Adventures and Piano Bop. We’ll recommend materials that make learning fun and sustainable. Lessons using English-language materials are also available.

 

⑨ Online Environment

We’ve optimized our internet connection to ensure a comfortable learning experience. During piano lessons, we use a close-up camera to provide clear and easy-to-follow instruction.

Born in Chiba, Japan. Graduated from the Department of Russian and East European Studies, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, with a major in Russian.

Studied linguistics and other subjects in the Language and Information Course. Also studied English, French, and other languages.

 

Raised in a family of music lovers, she was exposed to a wide variety of music—including classical, jazz, bossa nova, and pop—from an early age. She began playing the piano at age 3, the flute at age 10, and singing in a children’s choir.

 

While still a student, she performed as a keyboardist at live music venues in Tokyo. She later moved to Niigata, where she began performing as a singer-songwriter accompanying herself on the piano. It was during this time that she discovered jazz and became deeply immersed in it. She began studying jazz vocals and piano in earnest and started performing as a jazz vocalist accompanying herself on the piano. She has been active in this field for approximately 20 years.

 

Currently, she performs primarily in Niigata and Tokyo area, covering a wide range of genres including jazz, bossa nova, Latin, and chanson. She appears at jazz festivals, live music venues, restaurants, and other venues.

 

Leveraging her language skills, she also performs as a multilingual vocalist, singing in multiple languages—including English, Japanese, Portuguese, and French.

 

To date,

she has studied under Nabuko Kiryu, Yukari Akasaka, Vanessa Falabella, Hakuei Kim, and Koji Tetsui,

and continues to hone her craft.

 

 As an instructor, she offers a wide range of lessons, including vocal training, jazz and pop vocals, piano, singing while accompanying oneself on the piano, and composition and arrangement, as well as pronunciation instruction (in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Russian, and Japanese) that leverages her language skills.
