Thank you for visiting my profile!
My name is Satomi and I am a Pilates instructor based in New York City.
My mission as an instructor is to help people with zero exercise habits
be able to set aside even 30 minutes a week to exercise.
I think that as adults, we tend to live our lives without exercising much unless we have the time to do it ourselves.
Go to the gym, watch YouTube and try your best on your own...
If you want to do something but can’t or aren’t able to continue,
why not start with the least intimidating, which is online lessons?
Pilates has recently become more popular in Japan
as models and idols have started to practice it.
If you don’t know what Pilates is, don’t worry!
Even if you feel that it is intimidating, you will be fine!
First, we will talk about Pilates and then we will try practicing the basics.
I am sure that 30 minutes of physical exercise will surely make you feel better.
Let’s first start with a casual introduction!

[ Why I started practicing Pilates ]
I started living in New York City in 2021 because to my partner’s job transfer.
I had originally worked as an office worker at a private company and my life had nothing to do with physical activities.
In fact, I was rather unfamiliar with physical activities. (I was in the brass band in middle and high school!)
When I first came to New York and had more free time,
I decided to learn something new, and I happened to learn that
I could get certified as a Pilates instructor with a teacher from Japan.
I had only taken a trial Pilates class once when I was in Japan with a friend,
but beside for that I had no experience.
I thought about attending lessons as a student,
but I decided to take the leap and apply to study to get certified as an instructor!
Now that I am certified, I offer in-person lessons to Japanese people living in New York,
and I also started teaching online on Cafetalk from March.
As I mentioned previously, I myself am not good at exercising and have lived my whole life without doing much physical activity,
but Pilates has helped me make a habit to exercise and
I have come to love moving my body.
Incidentally, I have improved my posture which increased my height by 1 cm as a result of practicing Pilates!
So, please feel free to make your initial appointment with me regardless of whether or not you are unfamiliar with Pilates.
