Hello, I’m Yako.
I live in Nagoya. I’m from Hyogo Prefecture, so I can also speak Kansai dialect.
I have over 20 years of experience teaching Japanese. I have taught in Brazil, Cambodia, China, Malaysia, and Japan.

Things I like:

・Sourdough bread: I started baking during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I fell in love with it.
・Anime: Attack on Titan is my favorite.
・Travel: Bhutan, Bolivia, and Uganda left an especially strong impression on me.

My teaching experience:

・Business people (beginner to advanced)
・International students (absolute beginner to intermediate)
・University students in Malaysia (absolute beginner to upper-intermediate)
・Japanese-language guide at Angkor Wat (absolute beginner to intermediate)
・Foreign children attending Japanese elementary schools (beginner level)

Languages used in lessons:

・Lessons are basically in Japanese.
・I explain simple things in English too. I also use translation apps.
・I can have simple conversations in Portuguese, Chinese, and Khmer.

Lesson examples:

  1. Business Japanese (keigo, honorific language): role-plays, presentations in Japanese, etc.
  2. Conversation Practice: : For beginners to advanced learners. We choose a topic and you practice speaking a lot of Japanese. We can also practice expressions and grammar you don’t understand. Kansai dialect fans are welcome, too!
  3. Beginner Japanese: GENKI, Minna no Nihongo, etc.
  4. Lessons for children: Foreign children attending Japanese elementary schools, or Japanese children living abroad. I decide the lesson content based on the child’s level and goals.

*My basic teaching hours are Monday and Friday, 9:00-12:00 (JST, Japan Standard Time). I may be able to teach on other days and at other times, so please ask me.
