Hello, I’m Yako!

I majored in Japanese language education at university. Traveling abroad as a backpacker during my student days made me want to live overseas, and that’s what led me to become a Japanese teacher.

So far, I’ve taught Japanese in Japan, Brazil, Cambodia, China, and Malaysia. I’ve worked with learners from all kinds of backgrounds: international students, university students, business professionals, Japanese teachers, tour guides, families of expatriates, children with Japanese roots, and children learning Japanese as a second language.

My Lessons

I design lessons around your goals and interests, and I make sure you get plenty of chances to speak.

  1. Business Japanese: honorifics (keigo), presentations, handling complaints, and more
  2. General Japanese (GENKI, Minna no Nihongo)
  3. Travel Japanese: learn and practice simple words and phrases before your trip
  4. JLPT preparation

Things I Love

  • Sourdough bread: I got into baking during the pandemic, and it’s now part of my daily life.
  • Anime: I’m a huge fan of Attack on Titan. I also enjoy Fullmetal Alchemist, Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Ghoul, and Ghibli films.
  • Travel: I’ve visited about 20 countries. Bhutan and Bolivia left the strongest impressions on me.
  • Hot springs (onsen): I’ve been to the Hita Onsen in Hita, Oita Prefecture, the hometown of the creator of Attack on Titan.

* Lessons are usually held on Mondays and Fridays, 9:00-12:00 (JST), but I may be able to accommodate other days and times. Please feel free to reach out!
