English

Hello everyone! I am Rebecca, a native English speaker from the US and a bilingual Spanish speaker (Argentine Spanish). I'm a language enthusiast and polyglot (8 languages), and teaching English and Spanish is a true passion of mine. I love sharing what I know about language learning and helping students feel confident using a new language.

Teaching background and qualifications

I've been a formal English and Spanish tutor for 6 years and have taught 5,000+ lessons on educational platforms to 200+ students of all levels and ages. I hold an honors degree in linguistics, giving me expertise in syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonology, and phonetics, as well as in the science of language learning. For my thesis, I researched dyslexia and foreign language learning, which taught me how differently people process language, and I bring that understanding into every lesson, so I can adapt my teaching to how each student learns best.

Teaching style

My lessons are friendly and built around you, but are also meticulously structured with second language acquisition-backed strategies to help my students advance as fast as possible. My lessons typically look like this:

  • We start with a quick warm-up, where I show you an image with an interesting story behind it, and you describe it and guess what's going on. It's a fun way to "break the ice" and helps you prepare for the rest of the lesson.
  • Next is the main lesson. I choose a pre-prepared lesson that fits your level, goals, and interests. This is usually built around a short article excerpt and discussion questions, or a grammatical topic I notice you need to work on.
  • Throughout, I correct your mistakes without over-correcting, so you keep your confidence and your flow. I also suggest more advanced vocabulary and structures where they fit.
  • To round off, we will plan the next classes together, and if you're open to it, I'll send homework. This is usually an article or video to reflect on, or a grammar topic with a few exercises, to prepare for a deeper discussion next time.
