Eriko.Fuji 講師的自我介紹

Nice to meet you.
I’ve always been interested in education and worked for many years as a social studies teacher at a junior high school. After resigning due to family circumstances, I joined a private company where I was primarily involved in human resources recruitment and management, as well as new-employee and staff training, which shifted my focus from educating children to educating adults.

Through this experience, I realized many things. I learned that whether working with children or adults, as long as you keep striving, understanding something new is a big step forward, and overcoming challenges involves taking small steps one after another, allowing everyone to reach their own goals at their own pace.

I also realized that the “ability to communicate” is linked to the “ability to navigate life.” When trying to convey something to someone, “speaking” and “writing” skills become essential. However, with the recent proliferation of social media, it has become commonplace to express one’s feelings using only short words or emojis rather than full sentences. Perhaps because of this, many people find it easy to communicate online but struggle to speak face-to-face with others.

Furthermore, in recent years, because of technological advancement and widespread adoption of AI, as exemplified by ChatGPT, we now live in a world where simply typing in a brief prompt can instantly generate well-structured texts. While the resulting text may require some minor editing, it’s an amazing technology. However, I’m also concerned that this trend will lead to a further decline in people’s writing skills.

I believe that “speaking ability = writing ability,” and that “speaking ability + writing ability = the ability to communicate = the ability to navigate life.” When you speak to convey something to someone, you think about what to say and how to say it so that your message gets across, don’t you? You consider the order and content of your speech and try to convey the most important point.

When it comes to writing, students have opportunities to write essays, book reports, short papers, and reports. Even after entering the workforce, there are many opportunities to write internal and external documents, such as business emails, approval requests, and reports. In all of these cases, just as when speaking, it is necessary to convey information to your reader concisely and in a logical order, such as when, who, what, what happened, and how you felt.

In my writing lessons, I’ll focus on “writing skills.” Together, we’ll explore how to organize and summarize the key points for the type of writing required, and how to clearly convey your own opinions and thoughts to your reader as the most important conclusion at the end of the text. Once you learn and master these simple mental strategies, you’ll be able to apply them to any type of writing. Let’s learn together so you can write texts that clearly express your thoughts in your own words!
