Hello! I’m Mamico. I’m a bilingual English tutor from Japan with 19 years of teaching experience and around 4 and a half years living in the UK. Also, I began teaching Japanese to children from other countries a year and a half ago.
【My teaching experience】
I have taught English at language schools for both adults and children, and I also run my own English language school.
I have taught learners of almost all ages, from babies and toddlers to primary and secondary school pupils, university students and adults.
I offer lessons covering school English, English for university entrance exams, TOEIC and EIKEN preparation, parent-and-child lessons using picture books, and conversational English.
I also teach Japanese to children from other countries at an international school.
【My approach to language learning】
I believe that having a strong foundation in your first language is important when learning another language.
When raising my daughter, I made it a priority for her to develop a solid understanding of Japanese, her mother tongue, and built her English skills on that foundation. As a result, she became bilingual.
Through learning English, I have also made friends from many different countries. So, I want more people to experience the joy of learning languages and the excitement of being able to communicate with others in the language.
【Lesson style】
I want my lessons to be enjoyable and to help you discover how rewarding learning a language can be.
I’ll also share tips to make learning more enjoyable and effective, and I’ll explain things carefully until you understand them.
Even when something looks difficult, I’ll break it down into simple, clear explanations so that you can feel, “I can do this!”
Together, we’ll find the learning methods that work best for you.
【My English Lessons】
The importance of English Fundamentals
Is grammar important? Absolutely!
I believe that building a strong foundation in grammar, pronunciation and sentence structure is essential for learning English. Grammar, in particular, is one of the fundamental building blocks of the language.
A solid foundation brings many benefits.
When I studied in the UK, my knowledge of grammar helped me enormously with speaking English. I improved my speaking skills rapidly, and speaking became one of my strengths.
In my lessons, I place great importance on the fundamentals, because I want you to develop English skills that you can genuinely use, not simply learn English for school exams.
Why not learn with me, build a strong foundation for the English skills you’ll need in the future and develop real language skills?
【My Japanese Lessons】
Japanese Learning, Made for You!
Every learner is different. Whether it’s your goals, age or level, your Japanese learning journey should be as unique as you are.
I offer lessons tailored to each individual’s needs, drawing on my experience of learning about the cultures and ways of thinking of people from various countries. I also have experience teaching Japanese and maths to children at Japanese language school.
I offer Japanese lessons for children aged 6–12 (Years 1–6 at primary school) and free conversation lessons for adults.
You can learn Japanese in Japanese. However, you can also learn in English if you prefer. If you are completely new to Japanese, or lack confidence in the language, you are very welcome to give my lessons a try!
I want everyone to enjoy learning Japanese at their own pace, with support tailored to their individual needs every step of the way.
【Before Your First Lesson】
Before booking your first lesson, I recommend either booking a pre-lesson consultation or trying a trial lesson.
You’re also very welcome to book your first lesson without a consultation or trial lesson. In that case, I’d be grateful if you could send me a message telling me a little about what you’d like to learn, your goals and reasons for learning English or Japanese, and your previous experience of learning the language and current level, as far as you know. This will help me tailor the lessons to your needs and make them as effective as possible.
I’m here to support you every step of the way and will do my best to help you achieve your dreams.
For primary and secondary school pupils, it would be helpful if a parent or guardian could join the consultation.
Not sure whether to give my lessons a try? Feel free to send me a message. I’d be delighted to hear from you!
