A.yu.mi Tutor Profile

Hello everyone! I’m Ayumi, a Japanese language tutor.

I have over 3,000 hours of teaching experience and have taught Japanese to students ranging from beginners to advanced levels.
My advanced-level Japanese lessons are particularly popular on Cafetalk. I highly recommend them!
I’ll assist you on your learning journey from “understanding” Japanese to “using it naturally.”
Beginners are more than welcome! Let’s continue studying Japanese together in an enjoyable way!

 【About Myself】

I was born in Iwate prefecture, Japan. I’ve also lived in Okinawa prefecture for 4 years and Fukushima prefecture for 3 years.
I still live in the Tohoku (North Eastern) region of Japan, so I can introduce you to Tohoku dialects, recommended travel spots, and local cuisine. If you’re interested, feel free to ask me about this region!

My hobbies & things I enjoy are:

・Listening to music
・Going to live performances and concerts, or watching recordings of them
・Studying Korean (I just started recently)
・Finding delicious bread (I love bread, so I enjoy trying different types of bread)
・Collecting character merch and other goodies

Please share about your hobbies and interests with me during our lessons.

【Experience and Qualifications in Teaching Japanese】

◎ Qualifications

・Completed Japanese Language Education minor in university

・Completed 420-hour Japanese Teacher Training Course

・Passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test

・Registered Japanese Language Teacher - Registration application planned (2025)

After studying Japanese language education at university, I continued my studies and obtained additional certifications even after entering the workforce.

Studying for certifications while working was quite challenging. That’s why I understand how difficult it is for you to continue studying Japanese while working or attending school. I also have personal experience with the struggles of learning a foreign language. Based on these experiences, I continue working as a Japanese language tutor with a passion to support your life journey through Japanese language education and help expand your future possibilities!

 ◎ Teaching and Work Experience

・Worked at Japanese business hotels and ryokan (traditional inns) for approximately 3 years

・Worked in university administration for 6 months

Worked as a full-time tutor at a Japanese language school for 3 years

I taught a wide range of lessons from beginner to advanced levels, with particular experience teaching beginner level lessons (using the “Minna no Nihongo” textbook).

I also provided life guidance to international students, so I can clearly explain Japanese rules and customs.

Teaching Japanese online since 2021.

・Teaching at a local Japanese language class since 2023

In my online Japanese lessons, I teach not only conversation but also JLPT exam preparation and business Japanese. I have also taught using textbooks that students specifically requested. I create and conduct lessons tailored to each individual student’s needs. Some students have continued studying with me for over 2 years.

【About My Lessons】

◎ My Teaching Strengths

① Student-Centered Lessons

Rather than me doing most of the talking, I create plenty of opportunities for you to speak.

If speaking Japanese is still difficult for you, you might feel a bit worried.
But don’t worry! When it’s challenging, I’ll provide support to help you express yourself.

I adjust the lessons to match your level and pace, so you can feel confident during our sessions.

I prefer “listening to others” over “talking myself,” so I’m skilled at listening to what others have to say.
So, please feel at ease when speaking with me.

② I Teach using Original Materials

It’s perfectly fine if you don’t have textbooks. I create customized materials (slides and documents) tailored to each individual student, and conduct lessons using these.

I can also teach using textbooks.

※ Textbooks I Can Teach With:

・Minna no Nihongo

・Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese

・Irodori

・TRY! Series

・Nihongo Sou-matome Series, and so on.

If you’d like to use a textbook that is not listed here, please feel free to discuss it with me.

③ I Provide Feedback Sheets and Materials After Lessons

I provide feedback sheets and materials used during lessons so you can use them for review. While some lessons may not include detailed feedback, I usually send materials after every lesson so that students can review them on their own.

 ◎ Lesson Introduction

I offer various lessons ranging from beginner to advanced levels.

My most popular lesson is the “Developing conversation skills using news videos (for advanced level students).”

https://cafetalk.com/lesson/detail/?c=eJxLDDY3jkwL8Kgqy85Ic0l2TylzzSh2tLUFAGd_CEI.&lang=en

While the lesson page describes the lesson flow, this doesn’t mean we must strictly follow that structure or content. I will flexibly design each lesson to match the skills you want to develop and the areas you want to improve on.

I also offer other lessons including JLPT exam preparation, beginner-level grammar review, and casual conversational lessons.

You want to get to know what kind of tutor I am.

You don’t know which lesson would be right for you.

You can’t find the lesson you’re looking for, but you’d like to try studying together.

If any of these apply to you, please join me for a lesson consultation.

In the lesson consultation, I carefully listen to your learning goals and dreams, and together we’ll think about a lesson plan that’s just right for you.

I also provide a coupon after the consultation that can be used for any of my lessons.

Please feel free to make a lesson request.

I look forward to meeting you in a lesson.
