Nice to meet you. My name is Yoko!
I have lived abroad since 2000! I have been to 20 countries so far. I have lived in the UK for one year, Italy for two years and currently live in Auckland, New Zealand (NZ), where I have two teenage sons.
I am curious and like to try everything.
Because of this, I have learnt and acquired many things.
When I first came to NZ, I worked for a local travel agency arranging domestic to specialised sightseeing tours. I used this experience to arrange private homestay guidance and sightseeing for 12 years after marriage. At the same time, I also worked as a Japanese coordinator for language study abroad tours for high school students coming during spring and summer holidays in Japan, interpreting and attending to ensure that they enjoy their stay at the local high school and homestay smoothly and without problems. (2010-2019)
When I was in Japan, I loved handicrafts since I was a child, and after graduating from high school, I studied at Bunka Fashion College for two years. I could design and sew everything from gathered skirts to formal dresses.
After coming to NZ, I became more interested in knitting and paper crafts than in making clothing, and I taught knitting to my friends in NZ.
(Knitting lessons are currently suspended.)
I have often been asked for advice on relationships since I was in Japan, and even now that I live in NZ, my Japanese friends often ask me for advice on relationships and other problems.
I used to work in the cryptocurrency industry as a loyalty customer service and work training counsellor, and I try to make my lessons fun and upbeat!
As I am from Tokyo, my Japanese is standard Japanese, so I speak Japanese without any habits.
A Taiwanese student who used to take lessons with me for a year and a half worked hard to study and practise Japanese with me, partly due to her own efforts. Although she was rejected several times, she eventually found a job at a Japanese company and is still working hard.
Even here, before COVID, I taught Japanese to Korean.
I lived in the UK for one year and Italy for two years. The other years I have lived in NZ, so my usual way of speaking is NZ English.
I don't have any particular qualifications, everything I've learned is based on my life experiences, but I'd be happy if this could help you.
I can also provide lessons outside of business hours and be flexible as much as possible, so please feel free to contact me for more information.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all♪
