Hi, I am the Beading Dancer also known as Bonolo(ボノロ). I am from South Africa, Johannesburg. I am an artist and have been art for over 30 years. I initially started with performance art then later on started visual arts.
I studied Contemporary and Ballet dance in university and continued to pursue a dance career. I danced in many productions in South Africa and abroad. I breathe dance even though I am no longer dancing professionally.
I started painting in high school and started selling my paintings while in high school. I started with oil paints and also used other media. I also started using spray paint and even became a Converse All Star embassador for a year.
While pursuing my dance career, I started beading. This was the birth of The Beading Dancer. Later on, I studied Multimedia Design and was able to use it in my work. I have been part of different art projects. I have also taught design and dance in an afterschool programme and was also an art instructor for an N.G.O..
Dance helps us understand the movement of things around us and design helps to structure them. Let's take a journey into South African beadwork and design. We will go from the basics to creating beaded pieces together.
