Rick Benson 講師のプロフィール
Hello everyone, my name is Rick! I taught English in Taiwan for seven years in a variety of venues including cram schools, adult English classes including business English, tutoring for general English, TOEFL and TOEIC; GEPT and IELTS preparation classes and English writing classes for junior and senior high school students. I taught all ages and especially enjoy teaching university students and working adults. I enjoy teaching intermediate and advanced level students.
With a unique background that includes teaching and tutoring since the time I was in high-school, teaching of writing and teaching of English for Applied Purposes, Feldenkrais Method movement education, voice training for actors, training in Chinese Medicine and paralegal training I am able to help people learn in multiple ways. My career has involved teaching and tutoring in a variety of contexts and I have been called a “natural teacher.”
If you have a unique learning style I can help customize lessons to your style. Helping you succeed with your English learning goals makes me very happy. I can help you with learning and memorization strategies so that you can really acquire the language. If you would like to learn to write well, whether simple office memos and emails or more extensive, professional and creative writing I can help you do so. I coached Google employees in Taiwan to help them improve their emails, verbal communications with colleagues and writing ability.
I have taught classes in IELTS Speaking and can show you strategies for advancing rapidly in IELTS Speaking and Writing. While working for an IELTS organization I also had online meetings with some of their students studying in the UK. I served as a research and writing coach, as well as editor for these students and continued to tutor them one-on-one when they returned to Taiwan.
Do you have a special area of interest? This area can be an interesting subject to use for developing your English communication ability! One student loved to read tourist descriptions for travel to interesting places all over the world (including Hokkaido!). He used readings for improvement of pronunciation, to acquire new words and to ask me how and why the grammar was used in his reading passages. He was very motivated because he used his own, interesting subject matter!
Maybe you like to learn from textbooks? Some of them are very well written and they can help you monitor your progress.
Do you write professional papers for science, medicine, law and other subjects? I can be your editor and writing coach. You'll not only write well, you will also learn how to use your steadily improving writing ability confidently in the future.
Along with a positive, encouraging teaching style I have a gentle sense of humor which has taken me a long way and which helps others feel comfortable in professional, social and learning contexts. Language learning and practice can be filled with curiosity and fun.
