Hello, everyone! 皆さんこんにちは!
My name is Laura. I'm a certified Language Arts teacher with a Master of Arts in Teaching. I have taught English as a second language to university students since 2021, and I taught junior high school English as a JET Program ALT from 2017-2020.
Currently, I am living in Shimane Prefecture. In addition to teaching, I write travel articles about Shimane to promote the charms of rural Japan to an English-speaking audience.
Who am I?
I love reading, quilting, photography, and practicing Urasenke tea ceremony.
I grew up in the state of Oregon in the USA, but I love traveling and besides Japan I've been to England, France, Germany, and Mexico. During my travels, I have especially loved meeting people and making new friends. I believe that language is powerful because it helps us to make connections with people and cultures.
I hope that during our lessons, we can strengthen your powers of connection!
What are my lessons like? I provide lessons and services for busy people. If you don't have a lot of time to study, I have lessons of various lengths that can fit your schedule.
When I teach, I mostly speak English. However, I have studied Japanese since 2011, so I can support you in Japanese.
I like to create fun, casual lessons based on your goals and interests. If you want to have a free talk discussion or want to study something specific, please let me know and I can create a lesson just for you!
Besides Skype lessons, I also have options for support in writing (proofreading/native check) that do not require Skype. My English teaching philosophy: Language is connection.
Knowing even the basics of a language allows us to make a close connection with people that can lead to beautiful friendships. Language is wisdom.
Some words and ideas cannot be translated. When you learn another language, you can change the way you think and view the world.Language is power.
Understanding another language opens doors in travel, education, and career opportunities. In our highly connected world, this is more true now than ever before. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
