About me:
Hello everyone! My name is Anna, and I’m a qualified tutor with a passion for teaching. I was born in Europe, however my parents moved my family to the States when I was just a baby. Growing up in a multicultural household was an incredible experience, which left me with a love for travel and desire to learn more about the many cultures around the world. Some of my other hobbies include: writing poetry and prose, sewing historical costumes, watercolour, baking, reading, camping, handicrafts, creating music with my talharpa, learning Gaelic and studying mythology and history.
Education, teaching background, and Experience:
I studied Literature at University. I had always been very passionate about reading and writing, often spending my summers at the library. Naturally, I felt compelled to study literature and pursue my passions. My particular interest was in 17th century literature, Nordic prose, and poetry. I already had experience tutoring my classmates during middle and high school. So I continued to do so occasionally whilst in college. It was not until 2017 that I decided to pursue tutoring full time. I got my first job with an online company during this time, and that’s when I knew I had found my calling. In 2018, I got my certificate in TEFL, and continued to teach for the first company and a couple others the following year. Over the last four years, I have taught students of all ages and levels. I teach primarily online, but sometimes I will take on students in my area. I also have a lot of experience in editing essays and other academic letters. Additionally, I have assisted in interview training, creative writing, and email writing.
Teaching style:
I have been told that I am very kind and friendly in the classroom, whilst maintaining a challenging and informative environment. Furthermore, I try to cater to the needs of each of individual, as everyone has a different learning style, and therefore requires an individualized approach. I try to leave people with more self-assurance, and the tools they need to learn, both inside and outside our lessons. I love teaching because it allows me to help others pursue their dreams. Learning a second language can be a very empowering experience. I have seen pupils go from shy and insecure, to confident, self-reliant, and ready to tackle any challenge, and that makes it all worth the effort. So, if you are shy or unsure, don’t worry, in no time you will find the confidence to do your best, and together we can enjoy the process of learning English.
