General Notices

Hello everyone!

My name is Ray, and I’m TESOL-certified English tutor from Trinity College London.

I grew up learning and using both English and Arabic. From kindergarten, I attended English-language schools, had friends with whom I could only communicate in English, and, for several years, was taught by native English-speaking teachers. This early immersion helped me achieve near-native fluency in English, which I consider a second native language.

Beyond English lessons, I also offer seasonal and cultural lessons, including topics on modern and ancient Egypt, which are among my most popular classes.

Additionally, for those interested in Arabic, I teach conversational Egyptian Arabic, one of the most widely spoken dialects in the Arab world.

  • Why I Started Teaching

A few years ago, I started volunteer teaching, helping Koreans and Germans learn English and Arabic online. As someone who loves languages, it was a fun and fulfilling way to spend my time while also making new friends. That experience made me realize just how much I enjoy teaching.

I discovered a passion for not only teaching itself but also for creating engaging lessons. This led me to pursue formal training, earn my teaching certification, and turn this passion into a full-time career—even though my academic background was initially in electrical and telecommunications engineering.

  • My Teaching Method
The environment in my classes is always fun and friendly. Although I primarily teach adults, I believe that making lessons interesting and engaging is just as important for adults as it is for children.

My top priority in every lesson is to establish a clear, achievable goal tailored to the student's needs. By the end of each session, my aim is for the student to confidently reach that goal.

  • Availabilty on Cafetalk

(Availabilty in Japanese Standard Time)

If the listed times don’t work for you, please feel free to send me a message. I’d be happy to coordinate a time that suits you.

Online Standby

I try to be online on Thursdays & Saturdays and on Cafetalk Day (the 19th of every month) sometime between 5 PM and 9 PM JST, offering special lessons, big discounts, and fun games

Some of the lessons are suitable for both kids and adults and are exclusively available through Online Standby.

  • Coupons and Discounts

I really love meeting new learners and helping everyone explore the lessons they’re excited about! So, to make sure everyone has the chance to try the class they want, I offer seasonal coupons throughout the year.

Alongside those coupons, there are also a few ongoing perks I usually offer:

  • First-Time Students:
If a student didn’t have a coupon for their very first lesson, they automatically receive a complimentary discount on their second session. (Doesn't apply on trial lessons.)

  • Loyal Students:
Once a student has taken four lessons or more, they unlock a special discount on their next booking.

  • Price Changes:
In the rare event that my lesson prices increase, all current students enjoy a 2–6 month grace period (based on how many repeat lessons they've taken), so they can continue at the discounted rate and adjust smoothly to any new pricing.

I look forward to welcoming you to a lesson soon and exploring your goals together!

  • My Hobbies and Interests

Apart from teaching, I have a deep passion for writing. I started writing fiction around the age of seven, and it’s been something I’ve loved ever since.

In 2018, I ventured into a different writing path by starting my own blog, where I write expository articles on various topics ranging from finance and business to health and lifestyle (therayjourney.com). In 2019, I even published an e-book on self-publishing and marketing.

Reading is another passion of mine, particularly mystery novels and classic literature, though I’m also an avid reader of non-fiction, exploring subjects like self-improvement and psychology. (I share weekly book recommendations here.)

Music holds a special place in my heart as well. I’ve been learning the piano for a few months now, and back in school, I used to play the violin.

I also enjoy sketching from time to time, even though I’m not great at it yet—I definitely need more practice!

Languages are definitely one of my biggest interests too. I was fluent in German back when I was in school. A couple of years ago, I started learning Korean and made good progress, but unfortunately, after stopping for a while, I’ve forgotten most of it!

At the end of the day, my main passions are music, art, writing, and languages, so you’ll often find me immersed in one of those areas, always exploring and learning something new.
