Hello everyone! ¡Hola a todos! 皆んなさん、こんにちは!
I'm Martin, Soy Martín, マーティンです
よろしくお願いします
A bit about my background
I'm a teacher by profession and a language-learning enthusiast. I was born in Chile but spent my childhood in Canada, where English became my first language. Eventually, my family moved back to Chile, where I began learning Spanish from scratch. Apart from English and Spanish, I have been studying Japanese for six years and can speak a little. I’ve also been lucky enough to travel to Japan twice!
I have worked for over nine years giving private English classes in both in-person and online settings. Before that, I worked for eight years in a classroom setting, teaching music and arts to junior high school students.

At Meguro Castle in Kagawa prefecture, Japan.
Teaching style
I would describe my teaching style as student-centered and friendly, while at the same time thorough and conscientious. I plan lessons to suit each student’s level, goals, learning pace, as well as their interests and motivations. I believe the main purpose of a language is to communicate, so I aim to make communication an interesting and enjoyable activity for each student. As someone who enjoys languages, I hope my students can share in that feeling too!
In my lessons, we can work with an integrated-skills approach, focusing on speaking, reading, listening, and writing, following a structured progression of content, or we may focus solely on conversation. Regardless of the approach, a key aspect of my lessons is that they are dynamic, with a strong focus on practice, and flexible in adapting to the circumstances of a class and each student’s needs and preferences.
Since my lessons emphasize practice, we will try to communicate as much as possible in your target language. However, I will of course be happy to use my intermediate-level Japanese (or my Spanish or English, depending on the language you’re learning) when it is useful to facilitate comprehension.

The Andes mountain range is right next to Santiago, the capital of Chile, where I live.
I look forward to meeting you, learning about your goals, preferences, and expectations, and supporting you in your language-learning journey.
Hope to see you soon!
Martin
