Hello!
I have been helping
students at many levels to achieve their goals for....20 years! I have taught at Japanese universities, schools, community centers and companies! So I have learned as a teacher the following three points...This is what we do;
1) We
get to know each other with a little casual conversation.
2)
Flexible tailor-made (目的に合わせた) lessons! My students tell me what they want - I listen, ask questions and then I put together a
flexible tailor-made teaching system that is designed for each student! Every student is a different person so I do not use a 'fixed text book' (
unless a student has one they want to use or asks me to help them find one)!
3)
I enjoy teaching a variety of students.
Here are a
few examples of
real classes I teach:
Professional level English
- For people in the medical profession (pharmaceutical, nurses, doctors)
- Engineers
- Business people - PR, sales, and company CEOs!!
- Public speaking classes and cross-cultural business lessons (a speciality)
Academic English
- University students and professors who need help with academic writing or preparation for study abroad.
- High school students trying to improve their English to get into a good university!
- TOEIC scores - even TOEIC can be made exciting!!
- Special Educational Needs students
Conversation classes
- Exciting and useful English conversation classes with topics my students like to talk about!
Teaching RULES!! (Only 2)
1) Have fun and relax!!
We learn better when we are interested and when we relax that enables our brain to work better - especially for languages!
2) Making mistakes is wonderful!
If you don't make any mistakes then you don't need a teacher!
My background
I was born in the UK....but I have travelled!
I went to Oxford and Sheffield universities and (a long time ago?) I did my BA in Japanese Studies (
so I know what it is like to learn foreign languages!).
I have just completed my MSc in Energy Policy (
online - so I know what it is like teaching AND LEARNING online too!!)
I will soon be doing my Master in Environmental Law! So when I am not teaching I am reading some serious books -
teaching helps me to relax too!
I am a UK citizen, (I also speak French fluently as I have lived in Belgium) and my Japanese is pretty good so
if my students want, I can explain in Japanese, and
if my students want English-only lessons that is great too.
Whatever you want!Hobbies
I love
travelling and cooking!
Different types of exciting exercise, snorkling, kayaking or simply walking around
new places as we can learn and enjoy all the time! My family likes to cycle but I don't because I am very good at falling off my bicycle!
I work to promote new eco-friendly technolgies.
Gardening - especially new herbs for cooking with!
Reading science fiction and writing poetry.
