General Notices

Hi, it’s nice to meet you! My name is Mae and I live between Canada and the United States. I have been teaching English for the past 10 years and I teach both children and adults. I offer an environment that is supportive, encouraging, patient, and friendly. I completed a TESOL certificate in Cambodia in 2013, and hold a bachelor's degree in human services. Most of my teaching experience took place in South Korea where I lived and worked for 3 years. In additon to living in South Korea, I spent 3 months living and volunteering in beautiful Inawashiro, Japan at a cat shelter.

My current style of teaching that I offer is meeting like you would with a friend and working on arts and crafts or pottery if that is something that interests you. I like to get to know my students and what it is that interests them in life and their motivations for wanting to learning English. I find that chatting while creating helps conversation flow and takes on a deep yet relaxed quality that is sometimes missing in more formal settings. I enjoy speaking about many topics, such as art and philosophy, world news and politics, literature, music, food, and traveling.

Some of my passions in life are social activism, pottery, gardening, flower arranging, traveling and cooking. I spend a lot of time doing pottery and making cups and bowls! I am a big animal lover and have one cat, named Selkie.

I truly look forward to meeting each and every one of you! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

If you feel more comfortable off camera, that is absolutely okay and permitted. I am happy to accommodate different needs to make the student feel at ease.

This was my first ever official ceramics project. I decided to make a slab vase and carved poppy flowers as well as part of a poem by a Palestinian writer.

I have the most fun experimenting with the kirunoki method in pottery. I sculpted a sake container with a little cup.

Coil method pottery vessel. It's so fun to make different coil shapes and let your imagination guide your hands!

My sweet boy, Peter on our adventure in the south of Morocco. It was his first time staying in a hostel and he loved it.

My cat child, Selkie. We have been together for 4 years and have a special connection. She likes to hold my hand when we sleep.
