Hello there folks! My name is Charley Schoolmaster(yes, it's my real name). I have been living in Japan for 19 years teaching English and playing music(guitar, music saw and bass). With the benefit of that experience, my Japanese is conversational level, and my knowledge of Japanese culture is vast. In regards to all the potential students, I am TESOL Certified and I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology. Also, being a native speaker from California, my pronunciation is clear, and I respectully speak a little slower depending on the student's level. My teaching experience includes all ages and all levels. I have taught in various English conversation schools and High Schools, and have also taught company classes and many private lessons.
Originally, I`m from southern California. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and lived in San Diego for 10 years. In my free time, I love to play and listen to music, read books, draw art pieces, go hiking, travel around Japan, and sometimes watch a movie or netflix(love Rick&Morty, Better Call Saul....).
Regarding my lesson style, it varies depending on each and every individual student. I feel each student has different abilities and needs and I will work with you to help you achieve your personal goals. Generally speaking, listening and speaking are the main goals for most students, so I will try to focus on those skills. But, I'm also available for more focused goals like pronunciation, specific grammar points, idioms, talking about specific topics, etc.. Students of all levels, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to take my lessons. I honestly hope to help you achieve your goals.
Also, I am available as a guitar instructor. I have been playing music since I was 9 years old, and am currently playing in 3 bands in Japan. Musically, I'm into garage rock, psychedelic music, punk rock, no wave, new wave, post-punk, and roots heavy metal ! We can work on scales, various chord types, making a basic song, and music theory.
Looking forward to getting started here !,
