Hi, I am Mariko.
I have been teaching Japanese to foreigners for more than 20 years, both in the classroom and in private practice. I love talking and doing fun things with people. I have decided to become a Cafetalk tutor so that I can continue teaching Japanese at my own pace.
My family and I lived in Leeds, the UK only for one year, from 1994 to 1995. It was a really great experience for me. The teacher who taught me English at that time always answered to my questions in a polite way. She treated me like a friend, so I could talk about anything. I didn't feel embarrassed even when I made mistakes, so I could talk a lot by myself. Those experiences made me want to be a teacher like her.
In the UK, I taught origami at a local elementary school where my daughter attended. All the boys and girls there became fascinated with origami. I can still remember the students' joyful smiles and their excited voices saying "Mariko, look, look", when they created artwork of origami. My lessons include "origami" lessons, which children can also take. Parents and children can take the lessons, as well. You can also learn colors, shapes, numbers, simple adjectives, simple verbs, and the use of "~te kudasai" (the usage of asking someone to do something), etc through those lessons. If you are an adult learner, let's try to be able to teach origami in Japanese.

I used to play volleyball, karuta (Hyakunin Isshu), Wadaiko(Japanese drumming) and Aikido(Daito-ryu aiki-jyujyutsu).
Now I am enjoying music (vocals, drums, guitar).
I also like handcrafting with paper, writing poetry and texts, cooking, and traveling.

I would like to emphasize three things in my lessons:

Study from a textbook such as "Minna no Nihongo" (from Beginner to Intermediate)
If you have other texts, please let me know. We can discuss it.
2, Decide on your goal or point
You can study for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) (N3~N5 level)
You can also read and write hiragana and katakana, and study kanji intensively as well.
Try to read Japanese texts (if they are fairy tales and folk tales, we will also read aloud)
Let's write a 100-word diary.
