MelLi Tutor Profile

This tutor is currently on leave.

Hi There! Welcome to my Cafetalk profile!

Thank you for your interest in taking lessons from me!

I am a 24 year-old Canadian that loves music and languages. I started learning piano when I was ten years old, and had since received my RCM Piano Level 10 Certificate. I started teaching piano in 2010, and felt an instant connection to the students! I feel that music is the key to expressing the soul, and that anyone can learn an instrument if they find the right motivation. Over the ten years of teaching, I had given piano lessons, theory lessons, and pedagogy lessons. Under my teaching, my students had been awarded the gold medal (candidate with the highest mark in the specific exam level), and many of my students went on to become successful piano teachers themselves.

I am also a big fan of learning new languages! Besides English, I currently speak Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) fluently, Japanese conversationally, and learning Korean, Arabic, and Spanish. I believe that being conversationally fluent is the best way to encourage language learners to keep studying, and the best way to do that is to have a conversation buddy!

My teaching style:

  1. A flexible teaching style to help my students learn.
  1. Laugh, make jokes, enjoy natural conversations, and making the student feel comfortable making mistakes (afterall, who doesn't make mistakes?).
  1. Assign homework that has to do with application of what students have learned in class instead of repetitive exercises.

Ending remarks:

I wish to let as many people around the world as possible experience the wonders of music, and in the process, connect with people from different cultures and make an impact on the world. Cafetalk is a great place for that because it helps tutors and students connect with each other.

Experience and certification:
  • One-on-One piano/theory/pedagogy since June 2010.
  • Online One-on-One piano lessons since March 2020.
  • Volunteered English tutor since January 2020.
  • RCM Piano Level 10 Certificate.
  • RCM Theory Level 10 (History, Harmony, and Counterpoint).
