Hello there! My name is Matthew, but you can call me Matt.
I am a native English speaker and I come from sunny South Africa. My qualifications are:
I come from a family of writers, academics, and adventurers. So from a young age I had developed a passion for language and adventure. This drove me to make the decision to seek something more, so in the summer of 2016 I left my home country to teach English in Taiwan. I stayed there for two years, returning to South Africa at the end of 2018. It was at this time that I started my online English teaching journey. I have been teaching all ages, and all aspects of ESL for 4 years now, and I absolutely love watching my students improve steadily and reach their English goals! I would love to to help you like I've helped others!
WHAT DO I TEACH:
English levels from intermediate to Advanced are welcome, from ages 16 and above. If you are interested in taking the IELTS test, then please step into my office and lets get busy studying! If you want to just have a chat and keep your English skills sharp, as well as learn a few new words or phrases then I bid you welcome. Are you having difficulty reading or writing? Then come to me!
MY TEACHING STYLE:
I am patient, friendly, flexible and experienced and I guarantee that if we have lessons together, my singular focus will be on helping you achieve your goals, and I promise you will see real, tangible improvements in your speaking, reading, writing and listening abilities. If you plan on taking a few lessons with me, I will gladly customise your lesson pack and base it around what I think you should improve on, as well as what your English goals are.
MY LESSON STRUCTURE:
We will always start slow, and warm up with some small talk about what is happening in your life. If this is not your first lesson with me, we will do some review of what we covered in our last session. After this I will introduce the topic of the lesson and give you an overview of what we will be studying, whether it be grammar, vocabulary, or just conversation. Depending on the lesson type, I may send you some materials to familiarize yourself with, before the lesson begins. I will guide and structure the lesson, but I want you to do as much speaking as possible! I will note down any errors you make and the last portion of the lesson will be for going over these errors. Based on how you did during the lesson, and what areas you are struggling with, I will make some suggestions as to what you should focus on outside of lesson time. After our lesson I will send you feedback and links to any materials we used during the lesson, if you do not have it already.
Whatever your English needs, I am here to fill them. Let's get started!
