Hello/G'day! Welcome to my classroom, my name is Adam but all my friends call me Heath!

Originally, I was born in the United Kingdom, close to London but I've also lived in a number of different countries including Australia, Germany and recently Spain.

Have you got five minutes?

- I have been a teacher for over ten years now, working with students in primary, secondary/high schools and adults.

-Over the past four years, I have been teaching students in Spain how to improve their English, focussing on grammar and comprehensional skills; but, most importantly, pronunciation and conversational fluency.
-This also includes preparing students for any upcoming exams with recognised examining bodies such as Cambridge.
-My aims are to provide a class that is specific to your needs, be it with reading, writing, listening or speaking. Conversational classes are also available if you would like to practice your English in an informal setting.
-Music is a big part of my life and I also sometimes incorporate this into my classes if the student wishes. The methods I use include: studying the lyrics of a student's favourite song and looking for new vocabulary, analysiing the meaning of a song, as well as focussing on rhythmn/rhyming patterns.

My Background

Teaching has been a part of my life since I was born. My parents were both teachers and growing up, I was lucky to be surrounded by people who were enthusiastic about learning and had a desire to pass on their knowledge to others.

After finishing my studies at university in the UK, I began work as a learning support assistant (LSA) for students who needed extra help with their studies, particularly in the subjects of English, maths and science. After two years of employment, as an LSA, I moved to Australia. Whilst here, I continued assisting pupils with special educational needs but also moved into the disability sector, teaching life skills classes to students with physical and mental disabilities.

Teaching English from 2018-present

Over the past four years, I have been very fortunate to have had the chance to work as a freelance teacher in the UK once more, assisting adult learners from Eastern Europe and China who were preparing for their B1 English examination.

Most recently, I moved to Spain in the summer of 2020 and now work here as an English teacher, tutoring pupils of all ages, helping them with their reading, writing and speaking. This also involves preparing some students who wish to take English language exams from recognised assessment bodies like Cambridge.

A little bit more about me

Music is a big part of my life, when I'm not teaching, you'll find me listening to bands, artists and orchestras from a range of different genres. It's been great to be able to go to concerts again recently and I've been filling my time going to local gigs, as well as festivals. One of my all time favourite bands is Muse.

In addition, I play the guitar, bass guitar and a little bit of the piano. For many years, I played as a bass guitarist for a band in Australia and right now, I'm just getting back into playing the guitar at different venues close to where I live in Spain. Music is literally my heart and soul, if you have any artists you'd like to recommend to me in class, please tell me!

Last but by no means least, I am also a keen language learner myself. Ever since I moved to Spain, I've been working to master my Spanish and beforehand I also studied and worked in Germany. German is really my second language but my Mum was born in Quebec, so I also speak a little French too.

What to expect in my class

The first thing I will do with each of my students, is to spend our first few minutes in class, working out what part of English you are finding the most difficult. Afterwards, I will then focus on your preferred method of learning whether that is: reading, writing, listening, speaking, or a combination of different methodologies. It is important that you feel comfortable, as a student or parent with the progress of your learning/child's learning.

However, if you wish, I also offer introductory and formal classes that work on a particular aspect of English. It is not news to anybody, that we all have different ways of learning and what works for one person, does not necessarily work for everybody. Therefore I've designed a set of lessons that cater for as many learning styles as possible.

See you in class!

It would be a pleasure to be your teacher and I hope to see you later in class.
