Diminishing Returns: Learning A New Language

Senka

We often hear about the "Law of Diminishing Returns" mentioned in the subject of economics but you might have experienced it while learning a new language. Diminishing returns simply refer to a phenomenon by which the output, production, or benefit of a particular process decreases with input over time. Speaking in terms of learning a new language, we often notice our progress slow down as we become more advanced learners.

If you've experienced this feeling during your language learning journey, then you are well aware of the negative emotions such as frustration, a lack of motivation, or even a fleeting thought of giving up, that can follow.

That's why it's important to realize that this is something that happens to us all. Whether we're learning a language or learning how to play the guitar. It's simply a part of the process. So accept it and recognize that any improvements, whether big or small, are a step in the right direction.
