I will be busy this summer!
My mother (age 86) will move house in the UK and I will be there to help her.
She has lived in the same house since 1971 and is downsizing to a bungalow (a one storey house) so you can imagine how much stuff has to be sorted out and moved!
Her new house is in the same town but is nearer to the town centre so that she will be able to walk to places she visits regularly. She accepts that she may not be driving for much longer and wants to continue living as independently as possible. She has many friends, goes to French Club each week and Flower Club each month, visits the library every week and attends church regularly. She will also be nearer to her doctors' office and shopping.
How we look after our elders is a big question for everyone these days and particularly for families like ours - my sister and I both live in Spain but our mother prefers to stay in the UK. My mothers decision for the next phase of her life was to move to a smaller house which is easier to maintain and move around and it's my job to get her there and help her settle in!
So while my friends in Spain are relaxing on the patio in the shade or on the beachI will be emptying closets, packing boxes, arranging furniture and dealing with all the small problems that arise during a house move!
