Easter in London

Ezra HS

Easter is a beautiful time in London. We finally get some good weather! The British talk a lot about the weather because it changes so much and is so unpredictable. Often the first months of the year are cold and rainy, and Spring arrives in April. Schools have a two-week holiday over April, and many businesses have a few days off for 'bank holiday.'
Families take days out over Easter, and may do funactivites like easter-egg hunts, where chocolate eggs are hidden around the house or garden.
Although this is a significiant Christian celebration, there are a lot of symbols from earlier pagan and Druid spring festivals, like budding flowers, rabbits and birds.
For me, this is a special time, as the tree I can see from my London flat bursts into white puffy blossoms, and yellow daffodils come out. I like to go to the Surrey Hills on a day out and visit Box Hill, where Jane Austen used to live, and see rare wild orchids and the famous bluebell woods.
