Just a short 45 minute ferry journey from where I live in Dar Es Salaam, Zanzibar is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. It is a beautiful island good for any type of traveller, in this article I will list some of it's top attractions.

1. Stone Town
Stone Town or Mji Mkongwe in the local language of Swahili, is the historical centre of Zanzibar city. With narrow streets that seem more Italian than African it is also home to the world famous house of wonders. If you come to Stone Town you will have the opportunity to experience the vibrant culture has developed for the past 1000 years as a result of contact between Arabs, Africans, Indians, Persians and Europeans.

2. The Beaches
From Nungwi to Paje Zanzibar is famous for it's beaches, with perfect white sand and clear blue water Zanzibar truly is a destination that any beach fan must visit in their life. You will often see locals fishing and you can find great seafood at reasonable prices.

3. Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park
Those who want to go on a safari normally go to the Serengeti, however much wildlife can be found in this Zanzibari national park too, you may not find lions or giraffes but you will see the endangered Zanzibar Red Colobus. Jozani is a thick jungle forest and great for those who are wishing to experience nature, just hope you don't run into the Zanzibar Leopard!
