HSK1：A small talk on Chinese Grammar① 吗，呢，吧，啊，呀

We learn 吗 in HSK 1.Today I want to have a small talk about the Chinese Question Particles:吗，呢，吧，啊，呀。
They are so common that every Chinese use one of it at least once every day, but for foreigners, it's difficult to tell the differences between them.
Let me tell you how.

吗(ma)

It can be used when you want to confirm sth., and usually for the yes-no question.

1.你(nǐ)是(shì)中(zhōng)国(guó)人(rén)吗(ma)？

Are you a Chinese?

2. 你(nǐ)认(rèn)识(shi)他(tā)吗(ma)？

Do you know Him?

You can only answer them with "yes" or "no".
But please remind that 吗cannot be used in the Choice Questions as following:

1.你(nǐ)吃(chī)米(mǐ)饭(fàn)还(hái)是(shì)吃(chī)面(miàn)条(tiáo)？

Do you want to eat rice or noodles?

2.你(nǐ)是(shì)不(bú)是(shì)学(xué)生(shēng)？
Are you a student (or not)?

呢(ne)

It is used in the Special or What-Questions. The questions begin with such as When/Where/Who/What/Why/How/How many.....

1.你(nǐ)学(xué)中(zhōng)文(wén)多(duō)久(jiǔ)了(le)呢(ne)？
How long have you been studying Chinese?

2.我(wǒ)的(de)钱(qián)包(bāo)呢(ne)？

Where is my wallet?

In some cases, it is used as a bounce-back question to keep the conversation going on.

1. 我(wǒ)很(hěn)喜(xǐ)欢(huan)喝(hē)咖(kā)啡(fēi)，你(nǐ)呢(ne)？

I like coffee, what about you?

2.A:好(hǎo)久(jiǔ)不(bú)见(jiàn)，最(zuì)近(jìn)怎(zěn)么(me)样(yàng)？

Long time no see, How's everything?

B:我(wǒ)很(hěn)好(hǎo)，你(nǐ)呢(ne)？
Fine. What about you.
