A Role Model Who Shaped My Path

Weekly Topic: Do you have a role model in life?

Throughout life, we encounter individuals who leave a profound impact on us—people whose words, actions, and character shape the way we think and grow. For me, that person was my university English Literature professor. More than just an educator, she was an inspiration, someone whose passion for literature and teaching ignited my own love for the subject and, ultimately, my career in education.

From the very first lecture, she had a way of bringing literature to life. Her enthusiasm was infectious, making even the most complex literary theories feel accessible and relevant. She taught with a rare blend of wisdom and warmth, encouraging deep discussions that went beyond the pages of our textbooks. Through her, I learned that literature is not just about analyzing texts but about understanding human experiences, emotions, and perspectives.

Beyond her expertise, what set her apart was her unwavering support for her students. She believed in us, often more than we believed in ourselves. Her feedback was always constructive, pushing us to refine our ideas and articulate them with confidence. She took the time to listen, to guide, and to challenge us in ways that fostered both intellectual and personal growth. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom, offering mentorship and encouragement to those of us who aspired to pursue careers in teaching and writing.

She showed me what it means to be an educator—not just someone who imparts knowledge, but someone who nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and self-expression. Her influence stayed with me long after I graduated, shaping my own approach to teaching and inspiring me to pass on the same passion for language and learning to my students.

Now, as an educator myself, I often think back to the impact she had on me. I strive to create an environment where my students feel motivated, supported, and eager to learn—just as she did for me. I hope that one day, I too can be the kind of role model who inspires others to embrace their potential and follow their passions.
