Learning English is fun when we play games—even online! In my virtual lessons at Cafetalk, I use interactive activities to help young learners enjoy English. Since our sessions are online, I adapt traditional games to work in a digital space without the need for physical cards or materials.
Game 1: Simon Says
Simon Says is a simple game to learn new words. I say, “Simon says, touch your head,” and children follow along in real time. This game builds listening skills and teaches vocabulary, all through video interaction.
Game 2: Digital Word Bingo
For Word Bingo, I share a digital bingo card on my screen that contains simple English words. Children can follow along by marking the words on paper at home or by using an online whiteboard tool. When a child completes a line, they can shout “Bingo!” in the chat or out loud. This online twist makes word recognition fun and engaging.
Game 3: Virtual Memory Match
Memory Match becomes even more exciting online! I use digital tools to display cards with pictures and words. Children call out the matching pairs or use a simple interactive feature if available. This game improves memory and helps connect words with images—all without needing physical cards.
楽しい!
Game 4: Story Time Role-Play
I tell a short story and assign roles to the children during our video session. They act out the parts using simple English phrases. This activity boosts speaking confidence and makes learning lively in an interactive online setting.
Game 5: Online Pictionary
Using an interactive whiteboard, children take turns drawing pictures of English words while their friends guess the word. This creative game improves vocabulary and encourages teamwork, all within our digital classroom.
If You're Happy and You Know It!
This classic song game is a fun way to practice following directions online. I sing, “If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands!” and children join in by clapping, stomping, or saying “Hooray!” This activity is lively and gets everyone moving, even on screen.
