Weather the weather

EnglishKim

In March we had some warmer temperatures here where I live in Southern Ontario, and much of the snow that had accumulated in January and February melted. Then, at the end of the month, we had an ice storm. Under the weight of ice, power lines, trees, and/or tree branches, crashed down, some across roads or cars! We lost branches large and small from some of our trees and shrubs: maple, spruce, elderberry, and cedar. I will be clearing a lot of brush from my gardens and pathways over the next few days and weeks. I am glad there was no damage to our house or any of our vehicles. Our neighbours also escaped damage from falling branches, whole trees, and power lines. There was one experience we all shared, though, along with thousands of other Ontarians.

On Saturday March 29th our electricity went off for hours, on again for almost half an hour, then off again all night and into the next week. The electricity didn’t come on again in our neighbourhood until yesterday, Friday, April 4th. I am so thankful for the crews who worked to restore power, keep roads clear, and take care of emergencies caused by falling trees and ice. Sadly, I had to cancel some lessons, due to having no electricity or Internet.

During the 5.5 days without electricity in our home, we tried to stay cheerful. Here is a funny tongue-twister that seems fitting for such weather-related challenges:

Whether the weather be fine,

Or whether the weather be not,

Whether the weather be cold,

Or whether the weather be hot,

We'll weather the weather

Whatever the weather,

Whether we like it or not!

How has the weather been where you live? Book a lesson with me and we can discuss and/or read about the weather or whatever subjects interest you.
