A Special Day in Japan

Polly

If a day means something to us, we remember it.

If a day is special for us, we remember it.

If we are fans of Star Wars, we know May 4th is special, and we remember it.

Sometimes, an ordinary day becomes eventful, and we remember it.

Would you be surprised if I told you that Japan has a day called “Tom Cruise Day”?

The Japan Memorial Day Association officially recognized October 6th as Tom Cruise Day.
He is one of the few celebrities who has frequently visited Japan and done something special for his fans - like taking the bullet train with them and appearing on big screens near Shibuya station.

Apparently, October 6th is a play on words in the Japanese language.
“Tom” can sound like “10 (tō)” and “6” can sound like “Mu” in Japanese, making it “Tom-Mu.”
Wouldn’t you say that’s cool?

If you know of any other special days, write in the comments section below this article.
