Reading to Think, Speak, and Understand

Suja

In my classes, reading is more than just looking at words on a page. It’s a way to think deeply, expand vocabulary, and strengthen your speaking skills. That’s why I offer two kinds of reading sessions: TED Talk Read-Alouds and Book Reading Discussions. Each gives you a different kind of learning experience.

TED Talk Read-Alouds use short speech transcripts from real talks. Because the texts are spoken English, they are perfect for practising pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation. We read them aloud together, listen to how the speaker delivers ideas, and notice how words are stressed naturally in sentences. You also learn useful expressions and vocabulary from modern, real-life topics. These sessions help you sound more confident and natural when you speak.

Book Reading Discussions are quite different. Here, you pre-read a story or a few chapters from a book, and then we discuss it in class. This kind of reading helps you think critically—about characters, themes, and ideas. It also builds your ability to express opinions and analyse details in English. You practise using longer sentences, richer vocabulary, and more complex grammar while sharing your thoughts.

As your tutor, I believe both types of reading are important. TED Talk reading trains your ear and your voice. Book reading develops your mind and your expression. Together, they help you not only understand English but also use it in powerful ways—whether in tests, in the workplace, or in everyday communication.

Reading is one of the most effective ways to grow your English ability, and I look forward to guiding you through both short speeches and full stories as we build your skills step by step.
