Little winter goals

Weekly Topic: Just 2 months left this year! Small but achievable goals before December ends

Hannah N

We're now in the last few months of the year, time flies by so quickly!

Rather than feeling negative about the arrival of cold winter months in Scotland, I try to find little ways to enjoy this new season.  Every season is beautiful in its own way. In autumn and winter, I love wrapping up warm in winter clothes and going for a brisk walk in the sharp, chilly air.  Then I go to a café and enjoy a warm drink.  This is also soup season! I love bowls of steaming vegetable soup in the winter.

If you're one of those people who enjoy ticking off little goals, I suggest you think of all these small winter joys as little goals. Then, you might feel more motivated to do them instead of staying at home :) Goals can be really simple, like making yourself a special warm drink each day. Or, you can try learning a new skill related to winter, like knitting or baking winter sweet treats.  Or, you could even make a list of local places you could have fun visiting in the winter, such as art galleries, museums or trips to nearby towns. Recently I went on a day trip to do a forest walk, which is the photo above.  Going on a little trip was a nice change from my daily routine, and being in nature felt refreshing.  Walking through a forest is the best way to enjoy autumn scenery!

Winter is also a nice time to do some indoor hobbies, like reading or studying languages. I think online classes are a great way to stay motivated in the winter when it might be hard to go out to evening classes in person.  Rather than go out in the dark and cold, try studying at home feeling cosy :)
