Speaking and Writing Tips for IELTS

Ms Cathy

Remember why you are taking this test. What are your hopes and dreams? Getting the score you need is a step on the way to reaching your goals.

Practise, practise, practise!

Make sure you are familiar with academic vocabulary for topics like the environment, government, science and education.

Talk to as many native speakers as you can. Practise doing the timed part of the test for both speaking and writing parts of the exam, so that you do not mismanage your time in the test.

For the speaking part of the test, if you make a small error, do not worry too much. Just quickly correct your own answer, smile, and move on!

Spelling is very important for the writing part of the test. There is no auto spellcheck in the test, so it is a good idea to familarise yourself the spellings of words that you think you will use frequently in the exam.
