Celebrate Festivals! New Year Fireworks!

Weekly Topic: Celebrating cultures: How my class learns about global holidays

Ms Cathy

New Year Fireworks! Festivals to Discuss.

Let’s bring in the New Year with style, by discussing different celebrations around the world.

Did you know that in Spain people eat twelve grapes at New Year? In the UK people watch fireworks near Big Ben in London. In Australia people have special parties on boats near Sydney Harbour.

My customers learn about global holidays by describing pictures and exchanging information. We practise phrasal verbs, idioms and lyrics from poetry or songs relating to New Year.

Vocabulary work relating to the language of resolutions is important. We can also compare and contrast different New Year traditions for different cultures. Discussions around special foodstuffs regularly feature in my lessons, as well as traditional fashion or dancing activities.

Out with the old! Bring in the new!
